Mark 14:28 (NLT)

28 But after I am raised from the dead, I will go ahead of you to Galilee and meet you there.”

Mark 16:7 (NLT)

7 Now go and tell his disciples, including Peter, that Jesus is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you before he died.”

John 21 (NLT)

21 Later, Jesus appeared again to the disciples beside the Sea of Galilee.[a] This is how it happened. 2 Several of the disciples were there—Simon Peter, Thomas (nicknamed the Twin),[b] Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples.

3 Simon Peter said, “I’m going fishing.”

“We’ll come, too,” they all said. So they went out in the boat, but they caught nothing all night.

4 At dawn Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn’t see who he was. 5 He called out, “Fellows,[c] have you caught any fish?”

“No,” they replied.

6 Then he said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you’ll get some!” So they did, and they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it.

7 Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, “It’s the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic (for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and headed to shore. 8 The others stayed with the boat and pulled the loaded net to the shore, for they were only about a hundred yards[d] from shore. 9 When they got there, they found breakfast waiting for them—fish cooking over a charcoal fire, and some bread.

(Jesus knows that we have physical needs and he is willing to supply these.)

10 “Bring some of the fish you’ve just caught,” Jesus said.

(Jesus asks that we contribute to his work. We shouldn't expect him to do everything for us)

11 So Simon Peter went aboard and dragged the net to the shore. There were 153 large fish, and yet the net hadn’t torn.

12 “Now come and have some breakfast!” Jesus said. None of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord.

(They knew it was Jesus, but they must not have recognized him, physically.)

13 Then Jesus served them the bread and the fish. 14 This was the third time Jesus had appeared to his disciples since he had been raised from the dead.

  • Jesus had told his disciples to meet him in Galilee.

  • “Go to Galilee.” Then what?

I have titled this message “While I’m Waiting.”

  • When we don’t see Christ

  • When we don’t see Christ, actively working in our lives, we often tend to return to what was comfortable and natural.

  • How are we to know why Peter decided to go fishing? We assume that while he was with Jesus he had given up fishing, but, maybe not. Maybe he was hungry and maybe he figured it was “all over and good while it lasted but let’s get on with life.”

  • How we affect others

  • Life is a matter of choices, but those choices affect more than just us.

  • What we do when we have done what we could

  • What we are willing to do

  • Peter was so excited about getting to his Lord that he didn’t wait for the boat to travel the 100 yards to shore.

  • Did Peter think that he could walk on water again? The Bible stated that he jumped into the water…not that he dove into the water.

While I'm Waiting

I'm waiting, I'm waiting on You Lord

And I am hopeful, I'm waiting on You Lord Though it is painful, but patiently I will wait And I will move ahead bold and confident Taking every step in obedience While I'm waiting I will serve You While I'm waiting I will worship While I'm waiting I will not faint I'll be running the race even while I wait I'm waiting, I'm waiting on You Lord And I am peaceful, I'm waiting on You Lord Though it's not easy no, but faithfully I will wait Yes, I will wait And I will move ahead bold and confident Taking every step in obedience While I'm waiting I will serve You While I'm waiting I will worship While I'm waiting I will not faint I'll be running the race even while I wait I will move ahead bold and confident I'll be taking every step in obedience, yeah While I'm waiting I will serve You While I'm waiting I will worship While I'm waiting I will not faint And I will serve You while I'm waiting I will worship while I'm waiting I will serve You while I'm waiting I will worship while I'm waiting I will serve You while I'm waiting I will worship while I'm waiting on You Lord I will serve You while I'm waiting I will worship while I'm waiting I will serve You while I'm waiting I will worship while I'm waiting
